What joyous news did I receive today but that Troy or Dead Western of approximately Sacramento has a new song, “PPL ARE SCARED!”
On my massive list of “people I wish I could know better if I weren’t always working etc etc and I hope when we see each other every 10 years we’re still friends,” this dude is definitely in the top rolls of the scroll. And he’s one of maybe five lateral lyricists on the west coast who really have it, not weird for weirdness, but a real command of original usage, metaphor, atmosphere, stuff hipsters can’t fake.
Yes, he has to move his head like that to make his voice that deep, yes he can sing that deep much louder, filling a whole street. I never seen him use a microphone since what, 2006, 2007. Maybe he would if he sold out SAP Center but fools are ignorant.
Here’s a little older one, but not as old as us, I’m sorry to say.
Luke-Ass shows up with some new, unexpected gear, sure that it’ll make the show better. But 2-Strats has the final say about the “liquor cabinet.”
At band practice, 2-Strats debuts his latest opus. Luke-Ass and Cornhouse aren’t going for it, and in his rage 2-Strats threatens to use force.
2-Strats, Cornhouse and Luke-Ass not only get themselves shut down by the fuzz, but in the process get themselves dissed by the two smug cops as well. A disastrous house show all told. I will mail a poster to whomever can tell me in a comment what town this comic must take place in.
I saw the best band in the world last night in a cheapass converted truck at the SJ Jazz Summer Fest. They’re called Sonex, from Mexico City, and you must listen to them immediately!! Sonex because their songs are focused on the son beat (two triplets, for you gringos). They had big harmonies and would throw big fusion windups into the songs like a Mexican Mahavishnu thing. We have one more chance to see them the 16th of August in SF.

On top of everything, on two occasions the longhaired requinto player broke down and tapdanced. Anyhow, THIS WEEK they’re headlining the Son Jarocho Festival in San Francisco and I know you fuckers up in SF can come and go from work as you please, except those of you serving them coffee and lunch. http://www.sfsjf.org/
Get to see these dudes 16 August in San Francisco at all costs!!
Here’s a sweet video of them doing zapateado in the song “Luna de mi corazón”
