Poem about the news: The CDCR

The State of California have recently agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by incarcerated victims of indeterminate periods of solitary confinement in prisons, representing as well inmates thrown into solitary for gang affiliation. The State has promised to change the rules and procedures, but we’ll have to see. Here’s a recent document.

This made me think of the poem I put in my zine Slaver Empire, which you can read in its entirety at Wattpad. This poem was also graciously printed by  Raburn Publishing.

The most important thing is that the CDCR, Beard and Brown never get any false credit for any future legislation. Inmates paid for any future progress with their lives, and their lawyers did the best they could.

What are you correcting, Beard,

Chairman of the Prison Industry Board,

By hiding our state’s failures,

Alone for twenty years and more,

From its idiot population?

They already aren’t looking.

Who are you rehabilitating

Forcing her to relive her mistakes,

Cut off from any interaction,

Or knowledge that could help her heal

When everyday in school her sons

Learn that there’s no time for them?

There’s no one left to disappoint.

Integrity is scary as socialism.

No one minds the prison of a mortgage;

Desires confinement in his debt.

Convicts could walk through warm oak woods

Like rattlesnake grass, unobserved.

The hunger strike in Pelican Bay

Lays bare your fear of change,

While lives go on in spite of you.

You know that if they ever heal,

Go home to teach why not to fight,

Your creditors will cut you to pieces.

CDCR Allegedly Holding Illegal Hearings and Cramming Gang Validations

According to a new article by Sitawa Nantambu Jamaa, with reliable sources, tons of CDCR employees are holding illegal hearings and stuffing convicts’ records with gang validations as a rationale to throw more Californian prisoners into solitary confinement, DESPITE recent regulations ordering a process whereby convicts could exit their gang validations. IMPERIO ESCLAVISTA / SLAVER EMPIRE, Negro’s new bilingual collection of pomes is ready for distribution! In several traditional ballad forms, the pomes explain how the human-trafficking, tax-spending prison industry is forming our whole society and its debates so its hick owners can get richer. But you’ve read that before– the verses also point out how dumbass consumers are guilty of supporting the system.
Email negrocomics@gmail.com today to arrange buying your own! Give it to a young person who thinks his behavior won’t end him up in jail! Smuggle it into a prison -PLEASE!
$2 donations for the book plus shipping would be fair; locals should show up at the 2014 San Francisco Zine Fest.
Thanks to all the bloggers who’ve already reposted some of the pomes!
